Which is better a laptop or desktop computer?
I have around $650 and I want a computer to surf the web and do some video uploading and editing. I can't decide if I should buy a laptop or desktop and which one would be better for what I need. Please only write if you know what your talking about. Thanks
Depends on whether you consider portability a big deal. The two advantages a laptop has over a desktop are portability (obvious) and energy efficiency. Out of necessity, a laptop has to have a useful battery life, and the compactness of components means it can't handle excess heat as well. Both of those factors require it to use more energy efficient components than a desktop machine.
If portability isn't a consideration, a desktop computer will give you better value for your money. For the same money, you can get a system with larger display, and/or faster processor. The larger display is always a plus, and a faster processor means faster encoding on your video projects. However, once again, portability goes out the window, as it's a lot bulkier and heavier. Also, because it will use higher performance components than a comparably priced laptop, you will probably be paying a bit more on your electric bill to feed it.
