if a laptop harddrive fails what has to be done to get the laptop working again?
Is it just a case of getting a replacement hard drive and swapping out the old one. Will the laptop systems such as sound card & WiFi card have to be re-installed?
Just done this recently - it was a doddle. The drive will likely be a standard 2.5inch IDE drive. Just get a similar sized one (I got mine off Ebay for £30.00). They can generally be accessed from the base of the laptop by unscrewing a couple of screws and it's a simple plug in job. You will then need to reinstall Windows and any drivers but this will be easier if you have a manufacturers restore disk. If the worst comes to the worst you can always take it to PCWorld to get them to do it for you but it's usually a dead simple job.
