how to extend the ibm battery life?

Every couple of weeks, let it fully discharge, then fully charge.
Every month or so, run the battery reconditioning program that (luckily) comes with Thinkpads.
That's really about all you can do. I did get the extended battery with mine, it's been jammin' along with about 5 hrs of usable battery life for the past couple of years.
